Spare Driver

We are seeking an adaptable, well-rounded individual as a temporary, part-time Spare Driver with The Cape Breton Post in Sydney. This is a part-time, unionized position and requires flexibility in working hours. Schedules are subject to change based on operational needs.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities (include but are not limited to):

  • Deliver various publications within the specified region;
  • Provide assistance to the dispatcher(s) when necessary;
  • Deliver papers to Post Office and help control mail container inventory as required;
  • Courier between various offices in the region;
  • Deliver other printed publications as needed;
  • Comply with the standards and policies set out by the company;
  • Adhere to the organizations’ Health and Safety Policy, and follow approved work practices in identifying hazards in the workplace;
  • Participate in the creation of a healthy and safe work environment, report any unsafe management in a timely manner; and,
  • Perform any other related duties/tasks as required.

Minimum Qualifications for Success in this Position:

  • High School Diploma;
  • Valid driver’s licence and clean driving record;
  • Minimum of two (2) to four (4) years’ experience in a similar role;
  • Ability to utilize strong communication skills throughout daily tasks;
  • Excellent critical thinking skills;
  • Demonstrates professionalism and integrity throughout all duties, tasks and  interactions;
  • Capability consistently delivering results in an occasionally stressful environment;
  • Effective time-management abilities; and,
  • Ability to work effectively as a team member;
