Smith & Company, a salt fish operation located in Lunenburg, Nova Scotia - the current home of High Liner Food’s head office and one of the most modern and diversified food processing plants in the world. On behalf of our client, we are currently seeking a Director of Purchasing to join their team based in Halifax or Lunenburg, NS.
As the Director of Purchasing, you will be responsible for working with the leadership team and category managers to provide strategic procurement direction and consolidate the US and Canadian buying groups into one purchasing division. Tapping into the knowledge of multiple stakeholder groups you will gain a strong understanding of the current state of business needs and existing supplier relationships and identify opportunities to leverage synergies that may have been over looked; building and executing on a plan that enables the organization to use their purchasing power effectively. You will evaluate current purchasing processes, identify opportunities for improvement and implement metrics that accurately report on efficiencies and cost savings, ultimately allowing the organization to know they are making the right buying decisions. You will engage internal stakeholders to understand their needs and develop and manage strategic sourcing initiatives, negotiating terms that are in the company’s best interest and support long term partnerships with suppliers. As a leader you will also work to enhance the knowledge of your team and will identify opportunities to professionally develop your staff.
As the ideal candidate, you are a senior procurement leader with a demonstrated track record of successfully implementing change and improving upon procurement processes. Your Supply Chain Management Professional (SCMP) designation would be considered an asset. An effective relationship builder, you are able to develop and maintain strong working relationships with a variety of stakeholders and you have an exceptional ability to present and report on the success of initiatives in order to engage stakeholders and gain buy-in. You are a strong negotiator and have demonstrated your ability to use strategic sourcing methods to maximize budget and reduce costs. Inquisitive by nature, your communication and negotiation skills enable you to incorporate the needs of multiple stakeholders when finding cost effective solutions in a complex environment.
